LGBTQ+ Pride

LGBTQ+ is an acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, and more. The term refers to those whose sexual orientation or gender identity lies outside traditional societal norms. 

Lesbian: Women who are emotionally, romantically, or sexually attracted to other women.

Gay: Men who are emotionally, romantically, or sexually attracted to other men.

Bisexual: Individuals who are attracted to men and women, or more than one sex or gender. 

Transgender: People whose gender identity differs from their assigned sex at birth.

Queer/Questioning: Queer is an inclusive umbrella term that embraces those who identify outside of heterosexual or cisgender norms. Questioning refers to people who are exploring or questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

The LGBTQ+ acronym recognizes the dynamic and everchanging nature of gender and sexuality and ensures inclusivity for all people. The "+" symbolizes the inclusion of other unique identities and experiences that may not be represented in the five letters.

What is Pride?

Pride is a celebration of authenticity, acceptance and love in the face of societal adversity. It symbolizes the LGBTQ+ community's ongoing journey toward equality and visibility, and is an assertion of resilience and the refusal to be silenced.

Pride also serves as a commemoration of the milestones, past struggles, and sacrifices made that have paved the way for LGBTQ+ rights. It honors the brave people who have stood up against discrimination, and fought for justice and equal rights. From the Stonewall Riots to the tireless activism and efforts of today's LGBTQ+ community members, Pride reminds us of the progress made and the work that still lies ahead.

Pride celebrates the unique experiences and culture of the LGBTQ+ community, and fosters a sense of belonging and acceptance for everyone. It encourages LGBTQ+ individuals to embrace their true selves, overcome internalized homophobia, and find strength and joy in their identities.
